Shoes are normally perceived as protection in many ways. Normally shoes are worn to prevent injuries while walking on rough surfaces or rocky and tardy fields. In cold countries they also give protection against the cold on the other hand in warmer climates people usually wait for the first opportunity to remove their feet from the shoes they are wearing and give their feet and shoes a bit of air. It is not known from when fashion shoes came into vogue. Till the Victorian era women wore flowing dresses concealing the feet completely. Therefore it is safe to conclude that shoes became showpieces for fashion after the skirt rims of women started moving up revealing the feet and legs. This is the similar what happened to men's shoes. The reverse process seems to have developed. With ankle length trousers covering a good part of the legs there is little scope for shoes of fashion for men. But Fashion Houses do not give up so easily and their collection shoes are for both men and women.
• Women's shoes: priority is given to women when it comes to fashion shoes, famous shoes makers in France, England, the USA, and Italy vie with each other to bring out shoes with better designs, better details, better features, to give a look of elegance to all their products. Women mostly use high heeled shoes when they go out. All these shoes have a narrow base and some are even pointed. The fashion shoes may be of various designs but all of them are high heeled. Women who prefer flat heel for convenience expect even the show to high heeled. Even the slippers which are used at home for moving about in house are governed by intentions of fashion. Various names are given to women shoes like Mules, Sneakers etc; each with different attractive feature.
• Men's shoes: when it comes to fashion shoes men's footwear does not have the wide choice that is possible for women's shoes like embellishments, ornamentation, jewelry etc. The scope for fashion in the case for men is limited to what can be seen in the trouser head and that is usually the toe portion and the tying part. The heel portion is totally closed and therefore variations in tying portions are made by decreasing the number of holes for fashion shoes. As a solace sports shoes have started looking trendy instead of just being functional.
• General: the fashion shoes take some extreme forms with very high heels. The same is the case of fashion shoes for men with very thick heels with pointed toes.
The concept of fashion shoes will go on changing in design continuously.
